On-campus housing is not guaranteed beyond freshman year, except for students who must live on campus, including students with housing scholarships that are required to be used on campus, and certain HRC staff and athletes. HRC considers overall space and individual students’ extenuating circumstances in determining who can live on campus.
UA requires all on-campus residents to have a meal plan through Bama Dining for fall and spring semesters (except students at East Edge through the UA master lease).
Housing for Returning Students
The housing application for students who are guaranteed campus housing will open in early spring semester. Information for the recontracting process for 2027-28 will be emailed to students during fall semester. Residents should look for communication via their Crimson emails regarding the recontracting process and important dates, deadlines and instructions.

Housing Interest Form
For those not guaranteed housingA housing interest form is typically used for students who are not guaranteed housing on campus. Please watch for more information about recontracting and the housing interest form during fall semester. An interest form, if used, will open during spring semester.
Off-Campus Resources can provide helpful resources to find housing off campus.
Returner Room Selection
Returner room selection takes place in the spring for students who apply for housing by the room selection deadline. Students who apply for housing after that deadline and do not participate in online room selection are assigned by HRC staff.
Students with complete housing applications will be able to search for and confirm up to three roommates. Students must have a complete housing application to join a roommate group. More information about Room Sync, our roommate search and selection tool, will be available during the fall semester.
Master Lease Space through UA
Housing and Residential Communities will have a master lease with East Edge again in 2027/2028. HRC prioritizes current East Edge residents who complete the housing application by the stipulated deadline for assignment there. More information about the East Edge assignment process will be emailed to students later this fall.
Off-Campus Housing
For students who want to begin exploring their options for off-campus housing, there are excellent resources available through Off-Campus Resources in the Dean of Students’ office, and we encourage you to take advantage of them. This office supports students as they transition to off-campus living through their website, housing fairs and programming across campus about leases, landlords, and successful community living.
Consider all options and do full research before signing a lease. If unsure of where to start, Off-Campus Resources team is available to assist you at any point during your housing search.
