On-campus housing is not guaranteed beyond freshman year, except for students who must live on campus, including students with housing scholarships that are required to be used on campus, and certain HRC staff and athletes. HRC considers individual students’ extenuating circumstances in determining who can live on campus.
UA requires all on-campus residents to have a meal plan through Bama Dining for fall and spring semesters (except students at East Edge through the UA master lease).
Housing for Returning Students
The housing application for students who are guaranteed campus housing will open on Thursday, January 8, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. CST. Students who are not guaranteed housing but wish to be on the returner waitlist can complete a form beginning on January 13, 2026 at 9 a.m. CST to indicate their interest in housing. Information for the recontracting process for 2026-27 was emailed to students during fall semester. Residents should look for communication via their Crimson emails starting in December regarding the recontracting process and important dates, deadlines and instructions.

On-Campus Housing Application
For those guaranteed housing
On Thursday, January 8 at 9 a.m. CST, the housing application will open in the housing portal. This is not the myhousing portal that students currently use as a campus resident. Only students who are guaranteed housing will be able to complete the housing application at that time.

Housing Interest Form
For those not guaranteed housingStudents who are not guaranteed campus housing can complete the housing interest form in the housing portal beginning Wednesday, January 14 at 9:00 a.m. CST, to indicate their desire to live on campus, if space is available. This is not the myhousing portal that students currently use as a campus resident.
Completion of the interest form places a student on the returner waitlist for housing. The returner waitlist is not a housing application and does not guarantee that a student will be able to apply for campus housing. Students will be removed from the returner waitlist and allowed to apply for housing on a rolling basis, if space allows.

Returner Room Selection
Returner room selection takes place in the spring for students who apply for housing by April 7. Students eligible for room selection will receive their log in day/time by email in early April. Students who apply for housing after that deadline and do not participate in online room selection are assigned by HRC staff. Students who plan to form a roommate group should do so by 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 9.
Students with complete housing applications will be able to search for and confirm up to three roommates. Students must have a complete housing application to join a roommate group.
Master Lease Space through UA
Housing and Residential Communities will have a master lease with East Edge again in 2026/2027. Students who request assignment to East Edge should complete their roommate group by January 27. HRC will prioritize current East Edge residents who want to return to the same space and who complete their housing application by Wednesday, January 21, at 8 a.m. CT.
Students on the returner waitlist for housing will not have access to express interest in space at East Edge through UA. Assignment to master lease space at East Edge is part of the assignments process for students who have a complete housing application for 2026/2027.
Off-Campus Housing
For students who want to begin exploring their options for off-campus housing, there are excellent resources available through Off-Campus Resources in the Dean of Students’ office, and we encourage you to take advantage of them. This office supports students as they transition to off-campus living through their website, housing fairs and programming across campus about leases, landlords, and successful community living.
Consider all options and do full research before signing a lease. If unsure of where to start, Off-Campus Resources team is available to assist you at any point during your housing search.
Off-campus housing fairs for the 2025-2026 academic year are scheduled at the UA Student Center Plaza from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the following dates:
- Wednesday, October 1
- Wednesday, November 5
- Wednesday, February 4
- Wednesday, March 4
In the event of inclement weather, the fair will be relocated inside to the 2nd floor of the Student Center.
