1. Accepted to The University of Alabama
In order to start the Housing Application process, first complete the admissions process and pay the enrollment deposit (freshmen only).
2. Submit Housing Application or Exemption Request
Fall 2026 Application Opens: October 1, 2025 9 a.m. CT
Room selection participation deadline: February 2, 11:59 p.m. CT
Complete the housing application before the room selection participation deadline in order to participate in Room Selection. The earlier you apply, the earlier you select your room. Participating in room selection does not guarantee specific building or roommate choice.
While UA expects all freshmen to live on campus, some exceptions apply. Review our exemption policies and learn how to apply for an exemption.
3. Housing Considerations
Deadline: Vary by community
Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) provide students with unique living environments that engage them with students of similar goals and interests. Learn more about our LLCs and their individual application processes.
Deadline: April 1
We provide accommodating housing for students with medical disabilities. Review our medical request policies and learn how to apply for special housing accommodations.
When space allows, we offer on-campus housing for more than just freshmen. Options for non-incoming freshmen are very limited for Fall 2026.
4. Explore Housing Options
Deadline: For Fall, students should form their roommate pair, if they wish to form one, by early May 2025 (exact date TBD).
Find and confirm one roommate to live with on campus. You can search for a roommate through our system beginning in February 2025. Please note, HRC makes every effort to assign students with a requested roommate, if space allows, but cannot guarantee this.
5. Housing Assignment
Your housing assignment process depends on if you applied before or after the room selection participation deadline of February 2.
Students who apply before the room selection participation deadline qualify for room selection. Information about room selection, including each student’s log in time, is sent to Crimson email accounts. Log in times are determined by the date the housing application is completed.
HRC staff assign students that apply after the room selection participation deadline beginning in late May. Factors that affect when a student’s assignment is made include housing application date; gender; LLC participation, if any; and roommate. Assignments are made through late July.
UA requires all on-campus residents to have a meal plan through Bama Dining for fall and spring semesters.
Residents planning to bring a vehicle to campus will need to purchase a parking pass, which they can obtain through the Transportation Services office.
