Beginner’s Guide: How to Use a Dishwasher

Using a dishwasher for the first time? Follow this easy guide to make sure your dishes get clean and your dishwasher works its best every time.

  1. Scrape your plate
    • Remove leftover food from your dishes.
    • No need to rinse completely but scraping prevents clogs and keeps the dishwasher running smoothly.
  2. Load the dishwasher correctly
    • Place large items (bowls, plates and pots) on the bottom rack.
    • Place cups, glasses, and small bowls on the top rack.
    • Make sure nothing blocks the spray arms from spinning.
    • Keep plastic items on the top rack only.
    • Don’t overload the dishwasher; items need space to get clean.
  3. Add dishwasher detergent
    • Use dishwasher pods or dishwasher detergent only.
    • Do not use regular dish soap (it will overflow with suds).
    • Place one pod in the detergent compartment and close the lid.
  4. Choose your wash cycle
    • Normal: Everyday dishes.
    • Heavy: Pots, pans, or heavily soiled plates.
    • Quick: Light loads.
  5. Start the Cycle
    • Close the door firmly until it clicks, then press Start.
