2026-27 Housing Application Guide

All first-year undergraduate students are required to live on campus and submit a housing application, unless exempt from the requirement. To apply for housing, you must first be accepted to UA and pay your Freshman Enrollment Deposit (found in myBama).

Your application is not complete until you have:

Signed the Housing Contract

If the student is under 18, both the student and a co-signer must sign.

Paid the $175 Housing Deposit

This includes a $140 prepayment and a $35 non-refundable application fee.

Received a Confirmation Email

You will get an email from housing@ua.edu with the contract attached once your application is complete.

InfoRoom Selection Participation Deadline

Incoming freshmen who apply by February 2 are eligible to participate in online room selection. Those who apply after February 2 will receive a room assignment from HRC staff. Room selection times are based on date/time of housing application. The sooner a student applies for housing, the earlier they will select a room.

Getting Started

  1. Log into housingportal.ua.edu.
  2. Log in through myBama using your username and password.
  3. Select “Apply.”
  4. Select “I would like to apply for housing.”
  5. Select “Academic Year.”

Application Details

If you are 18 years old or older:

  1. Click “Next.”
  2. Click “Next.”

If you are under the age of 18 and require a co-signer:

  1. Click “Next.”
  2. Under the Co-Signer section, select “Add New.”
  3. Enter your co-signer’s first name, last name, and email.
  4. Click “Save.”
  5. Select the co-signer’s name that was added.
  6. Click “Next.”
  7. Click “Next.”

Sign the Housing Contract

  1. Review the contract.
  2. The student will enter their initials in Section P.
  3. The student will sign at the bottom of the contract.
  4. Click “Accept.”

exclamationParent Co-signs on a Different Screen

The parent co-signer signs using a link that is emailed to their email address, not on the same screen as the student.

If you are under the age of 18 and require a co-signer:

  1. Your co-signer will receive an email from housing@ua.edu (sent to the email address entered earlier).
  2. In that email, click the link to set up a password.
  3. After setting the password, select “Click here” to log in to the co-signer portal.
  4. Click “Login.”
  5. Log in with the co-signer’s email and new password.
  6. Fill in the co-signer’s home address by clicking “Change.”
  7. Once the address is filled in, select “Save,” then “Return to Dashboard.”
  8. Next to the student you are co-signing for, click the red button that says “Select.”
  9. The co-signer should initial section P, sign at the bottom of the contract, then click “Accept.”
  10. When complete, the screen will show “Co-Signer Accepted.”

Pay the $175 Housing Deposit

  1. Pay the $175 application fee ($140 prepayment and $35 non-refundable housing application fee).

InfoHousing Application Cancellations and Refunds

If you apply for housing and then decide not to attend UA, cancel your housing application prior to the deadlines to receive a refund.

Confirm Your Application is Complete

  1. After submitting payment, you should see a screen that says “Application Submitted.”
  2. You will also receive a confirmation email from housing@ua.edu with the contract attached.

Check Application Status

Students can log in to housingportal.ua.edu at any time to check their application status.

  1. From the main page of the housing portal, select “Dashboard.”
  2. Then select “View” to see your application details.
