Policies

Please be aware that by completing a housing application, you signed a contract for a specified academic year or term.

All residents and their guests are expected to be familiar with and abide by the Code of Student Conduct and Community Living Standards.

Advertising

HRC limits activities, advertisement, and events to those sponsored and/or conducted by University offices and registered student organizations. HRC must approve and distribute all marketing materials. Unauthorized materials will be removed. Learn more about our advertising policies.

Animals

Animals other than fish are generally not permitted in any UA-owned, leased, or managed housing. Service dogs and approved Emotional Support Animals are not pets and are allowed in UA-owned, leased, or managed housing. Students with a disability who have a service dog must provide up-to-date vet records and go over and sign the Assistance Animal Agreement prior to the dog moving in. Daily charges up to $200 per day may be assessed for violations.  Learn more about assistance animals.

Appliances

Residents may not keep any item in your residence that has an open flame source, flammable liquid, or that may pose a fire hazard, including, but not limited to: oil lamps, candles, hookah pipes, incense, gasoline, charcoal, natural cut trees, branches, or greens, and halogen lamps and bulbs, air fryer, deep fat fryer, electric griddle, electric grill, electric sandwich makers or presses, electric waffle iron, electric wok, hot oil popcorn popper, hot plate, indoor grill or boiler, toaster oven, crock pots, or any cooking tool that does not have an automatic shut off feature. Anytime a student is cooking or heating food in an approved device, they must stay with it to avoid a fire situation.

Commercial Enterprise

Personal business enterprises shall not be conducted in or from UA residential facilities, including Internet- related business operations. Residence hall rooms and public areas are designated as State facilities and are controlled accordingly by State law, University policy as published in the Facility and Grounds Use Policy, and the Community Living Standards as published on the HRC website. Policies as published all prohibit the operation of private, for-profit programs or services within State facilities.

Entry

Occupant shall allow UA reasonable access to enter and inspect the premises to ascertain that Occupant is carrying out the terms, conditions, and provisions of this Contract and to make necessary repairs, improvements, alterations, and health and safety inspections, as well as to perform necessary pest control services. The submission of a work order is considered authorization for maintenance personnel to enter an individual’s room. UA reserves the right to enter and inspect living spaces at any time to protect and maintain the property of UA, the health and safety of our occupants, student, and campus community, or whenever necessary to aid in the basic responsibility of UA regarding discipline and maintenance of its facilities.

Furniture

All University furniture must remain in the room.

Guest/Visitor

Visitors should be escorted by their host at all times. Residents must notify their roommate(s) at least 24 hours in advance of an overnight visitor and the roommate(s) must agree the visitor can stay. An overnight visitor cannot stay more than 72 hours in HRC facilities, while visiting. Where applicable, residents are responsible for upholding and abiding by the posted visitation policy and hours in all residence halls.

Lockout

If a resident’s key becomes temporarily misplaced or a resident is locked out of their room, the student must contact an HRC Desk to gain entry to their room. The student will need to present ID to verify they are assigned to the room. Residents will be billed beginning with their second lock out. The second, third, and fourth lock outs will be billed at $25, and on the fifth a lock replacement will be ordered and the student will have to meet with a Housing and Residential Communities conduct investigator. A lost key will result in a minimum charge of $100 fee billed to their student account for a lock change and re-issued key.

Motorized Bikes/Scooters

Parking, riding or storing a bike, motorcycle, motorized scooter, electric bicycle, hover board, or moped in an unauthorized area, including, but not limited to, stairwells, hallways, rooms, lounges, balconies, trees, plants, public seating fixtures, signposts, or electrical fixtures, is prohibited. Hoverboards, and other similar self-balancing boards, electric skateboards, and electric scooters are prohibited from being used inside all University-owned buildings. This includes residence halls. These devices are also restricted from having their batteries charged inside the aforementioned facilities. The charging of these devices creates the possibility of fires from overcharging.

Renter’s Insurance

UA does not assume any obligation or liability for loss, theft, or damage to items of personal property which may occur in its buildings or on its grounds prior to, during, or subsequent to the terms of the housing contract. This includes, but is not limited to, damage, loss, fire, water damage, theft, flooding, or otherwise. Occupants are urged to purchase renter’s insurance for protection against loss or property damage.
